about fine art prints
Long, long ago, before the word digital was invented, photographs were produced by exposing film to light in a camera, and the ensuing prints were made by hand, in a darkroom, using chemicals.
THEY STILL ARE....
The traditional method of producing SILVER GELATIN photographs ( often refered to these days as ANALOGUE photography ) not only survives, but is enjoying a rennaissance despite, or perhaps even because of the seemingly all conquering ditital format. Indeed , there is a now a recognised sub - trend for people to learn the basics of photography by using digital cameras, and then to switch over to traditional means of image capture and production.
There is also an increasing interest in traditionally produced photography among collectors of fine art monochrome prints.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS :
All of the LIMITED EDITION prints for sale here are silver gelatin photographs. Each print is individually produced, and most entail various techniques of image manipulation in the darkroom, such as 'burning' and 'dodging' any areas of the image in order to intensify or reduce local areas of tone and / or contrast.
They are then treated with selenium toner, which gives ARCHIVAL PERMANANCE. A print thus treated will outlast it's owner.
EACH EDITION IS LIMITED TO A NUMBER OF 50 ONLY.
